The future is all around us. Not a day passes in which we are not confronted with the long-term repercussions of climate change, dwindling resources, financial crises or the risks of an ageing society. Yet tomorrow’s world often seems abstract, far removed from reality and in the hands of fate. The future seems to happen without our being able to influence it.
This is the starting point for the exhibition “THE FUTURE IS OURS”, which is being curated by the W.I.R.E think tank and staged in collaboration with international artists and socially engaged companies from diverse sectors. A room is devoted to each of seven life topics from sex to death, creating provocative, unexpected and sensual future spaces that invite visitors not just to think about the issue but also to decide where they stand. Do we want to optimise childbirth through the use of technology and be able to become parents up to the age of 60? What should a menu look like in future? What does autonomous living mean in practice? What role should knowledge generated by algorithms play in our decisions? How can we invest our resources sustainably? And how do we cope with the fact that our life must inevitably come to an end even though our memories will live on forever on the internet?
Until the end of December 2014, guided tours of the exhibition were hosted exclusively by more than 30 figures from the worlds of business, academia, politics and culture, who offered visitors their own personal interpretation of the world of tomorrow – and beyond.
The exhibition has been extended and can be visited until the end of March 2015.
Opening hours: Friday, 14.00 - 17.00h
